E-Commerce Training: MCI joins forces with institutions to strengthen the capacity of Directorate-General of Commerce staff

Dili, 28 July 2026 – The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI), through the Directorate-General of Commerce, in cooperation with the Central Bank of Timor-Leste (BCTL), TIC Timor I.P., TELEKOMSEL, the National Commercial Bank of Timor-Leste (BNCTL), the Ministry of Justice, and development partners including the Open Trade Pillar of the AEIP Program, organized a three-day training on E-Commerce for staff of the Directorate-General of Commerce. The training was held at the MCI premises, Fomentu Mandarin, Dili.

Building Digital Capacity

The training provided staff with the opportunity to broaden their general knowledge and develop practical skills in accessing e-commerce. Its main objective was to prepare and empower officials to respond to digital advances that facilitate commercial transactions and enhance transparency in the economic sector.

Supporting Modernization and International Integration

This initiative is part of the Government’s broader efforts to promote administrative modernization and the digitalization of commercial services, particularly at a time when Timor-Leste’s integration into the ASEAN regional framework and the World Trade Organization will present significant challenges.

Strengthening Cooperation

The three-day program also served as a platform for sharing experiences between government institutions and private partners, ensuring that staff can adapt to technological changes and effectively implement e-commerce practices.
