THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FORESTS

THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON FORESTS
Díli, July 18, 2025 – The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Nino Pereira, participated in the national conference on forests, with the theme “Economic Diversification through the Forestry Sector,” organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Forestry (MAPPF), through the State Secretariat for Forests, at the Dili Convention Center (CCD).

The conference aims to reflect, engage in dialogue, and renew commitments to the development of the forestry sector in the country.

Forests, as a natural platform for the diversification of Timor-Leste’s economy, not only offer timber and other products, but also provide rich biodiversity and beautiful landscapes, which can support ecotourism, cultural tourism, and community-based natural enterprises. Protected forest areas, sacred lands, and mountain ecosystems are increasingly recognized for their ecological and economic value.

The current government prioritizes the development of the blue economy, and MAPPF actively supports the program through various actions, including the construction of palm nurseries, reforestation efforts, and community awareness campaigns to prevent the cutting of palm trees.
