Timor-Leste Participates in the Regional Socialization of the CAA Strategic Plan 2026–2030 in Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, 12th June, 2025 Continuing its active involvement of East Timor in the regional integration process, the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MCI), led by the Director-General of Commerce, Mr. Nelito Lima de Araújo, participated in the regional socialization of the ASEAN Economic Community (EAC) Strategic Plan 2026–2030. The event took place at Perdana Hall, Ministry of International Trade and Industry, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This important initiative was carried out within the framework of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, with technical support from the Australian Government, through the Aus4ASEAN Futures program, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

 

AEC 2026–2030: Providing Strategic Direction for Regional Economic Integration

The AEC Strategic Plan 2026–2030 is a guiding and visionary document that aims to deepen economic integration in the region. It establishes 6 strategic objectives, 99 targets and 192 measures, with the purpose of strengthening ASEAN's competitiveness in the global economy.

 

Active Participation of Timor-Leste and Member States

The Timorese delegation had the opportunity to interact with representatives of ASEAN Member States, partner countries such as Australia, China, India and Korea (ASEAN Plus), as well as with members of the private sector, civil society, academia and the media.

During the meeting, key themes for the future of economic integration were discussed, including:

  • Innovation and technology
  • Increased productivity and digitalization
  • Standardization and harmonization
  • Transparency and reporting
  • Establishment of a regional minimum wage
  • Concrete actions to promote economic integration

 

Expected Impact: A More Integrated and Inclusive ASEAN

Socialization in Kuala Lumpur reinforces the region's commitment to building a deeply integrated, resilient, and inclusive ASEAN. It is hoped that the discussions and consensus reached at this meeting will contribute to an effective implementation of the strategic plan, ensuring that the benefits of economic integration reach all communities in the region.*nz
