His Excellency the Vice Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Augusto Jรบnior Trindade, participated as Head of the Timor-Leste Delegation in the Second ASEAN Senior Economic Officials Meeting (SEOM), held in the context of the 56th ASEAN Economic Ministers' Meeting (SEOM 2/56), taking place from April 21 to 24, 2025, in Penang, Malaysia.
In his initial remarks, the Vice Minister expressed his deep gratitude for the spirit of consensus demonstrated by ASEAN Member States on the first day of the meeting.
โWe are deeply thankful for SEOMโs role in considering and submitting topics for endorsement by the ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM). We acknowledge the significance of these agreements in strengthening ASEANโs legal and economic architecture, and we reaffirm our commitment to aligning with the blocโs legal structures and priorities,โ stated the Vice Minister.
He further emphasized that Timor-Leste is ready to accede to the 66 listed ASEAN Economic Agreements (AEAs), as well as to the Priority List of the Accession Roadmap, as communicated through the Verbal Note submitted to the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC).
The Vice Minister reaffirmed that Timor-Leste remains firmly committed to fulfilling the milestones established in its accession roadmap and is prepared to fully assume its obligations and responsibilities in accordance with ASEANโs principles and frameworks.
