The Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Nino Pereira, participated in the commemoration of the 4th National Tais Day, which had the theme "With Tais, We Strengthen Our National Identity." The event took place at the Presidential Palace of Aitarak Laran, Dili.
The celebration of the National Tais Day aims for its recognition as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, promoting it as the cultural identity of Timor-Leste, increasing awareness, dissemination, and the use of Tais by everyone.
The Minister of Commerce and Industry, in his speech, stated that this celebration serves as a reminder that Tais is not just a handicraft, but a national identity.
"I feel proud to speak on this day, the day we celebrate as the National Tais Day. The government dedicates this day to all of us, to remind us that Tais is not just a handicraft, but a national identity that brings pride from generation to generation," said the MCI Minister.
Furthermore, the Minister highlighted three important points: Tais strengthens the national identity and the image that represents Timor-Leste in the world; Tais gains global recognition, as today it is not just part of ceremonies but also becomes a symbol of national consensus, serving as an inspiration to other nations; and finally, it is a sign of hope for the future, because it can create jobs, economic income, and sustain national identity.
